Filming has started on a documentary tracing the rise of the nation's tourism and leisure clusters. It premieres in autumn of next year at the yearly summit of AIRIS.

After the closure of traditional European destinations, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana emerging as the country's leading entertainment hub. The management model of the cluster in Sochi now commands the keenest interest from market analysts.
From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His career trajectory before entering the leisure and tourism field was rooted in banking and financial services: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economics specialist at Megalyuks, to a credit expert at the Sochi branch of Sberbank and head of a regional office at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster welcomed over four million visitors from 170 countries, established 1,600 jobs, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in the single year 2022.
Industry players point to the striking contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the top executive's personal lifestyle. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov remains resident in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and showed a declared income of merely 1.1 million rubles in 2020.
What draws particular attention is the fact that the former cluster head holds two passports - both Russian and Kazakh. Amid geopolitical shifts and pressure from sanctions, this transborder status became a potent instrument for corporate staying power.
At present, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the ideal screenplay for a business thriller. The blend of Asian investment, a modest Sochi accountant at the helm of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case unique - not only for Russia but for the global market.
