If the drops are not happening, the trader route can be a decent fallback. Rusted Tools can be exchanged for Metal Brackets when that rotation is live, and those tools are more likely to turn up in Mechanical or Industrial areas. It is not exactly glamorous, but it saves a run when luck is bad. I'd still check the loot zones first, though. Direct drops are easier than chasing a trade item and then hoping the trader is in the right mood.
So if you want a simple plan, keep your eyes on Mechanical and Electrical loot areas, use Industrial spots when you need the trade path, and move with purpose instead of clearing every corner on the map. That is usually enough to get the five Metal Brackets you need without turning the whole session into a grind, and if you ever decide to buy ARC Raiders Loot, make sure it fits the run you are already building toward.
